Hiking Rio Celeste – Tenorio Volcano

  • Duration 4 hours
  • Age 6–70 years
  • Minimum 4 people
  • Departures 8:00 am

The experience

Explore the rainforest of Tenorio Volcano National Park on a hiking tour to Río Celeste. The complete Misterios del Tenorio trail covers approximately 6 km (3.7 miles) round trip, taking in the waterfall, Blue Lagoon, Borbollones and El Teñidero. Allow approximately four hours for the tour.

At El Teñidero, the Río Buenavista and Quebrada Agria meet. Tiny mineral particles suspended in the water scatter light, creating the river’s characteristic blue appearance. At Borbollones, volcanic gases rise through the water and produce visible bubbles.

Enjoy the waterfall and the surrounding forest from the designated trail and viewpoints. Entering the river or swimming inside the national park is not permitted.
